Friction and conflict in relationships are a common occurrence and completely normal. Learning to deal with this in a constructive way in the interest of both parties is of vital importance.

Many people generally shy away from conflict and try and avoid it. This often results in one or both parties staying stuck in the past, unable to move forward as a result of hurt and resentment.

It is often difficult to move past this on your own as these feelings are personal, intimate and fundamentally important to you. It helps however to understand that you are not alone in this and that many relationships have instances where one or both parties feel like this.

It is however very important to understand your relationship better and there are a number of things to take into account when looking at your relationship:

  • you are in a good relationship if 80% of your needs are being met
  • bad relationships result in walls being built up, while good and healthy relationships break down walls
  • communication is one of the most important skills in a happy relationship
  • everyone’s needs in a relationship is important

Through couples counselling you will learn to deal with the challenges experienced in a relationship. You will foster an understanding of the other person’s point of view and learn to communicate effectively again. In order for this to be effective it is important that both parties participate openly in the process.
